Synthesis, in Human-Centred Design, is a collaborative process of sensemaking, which leads to creating a coherent summary of all the data gathered during the design research. Synthesis can be explained in 3 major steps Synthesis (Design Thinking) Synthesis is a mode in design thinking where a team makes sense of the data it collected during user research. It creates 'models of reality' (e.g. affinity diagrams, journey maps, personas, etc.) to gain a better understanding of the (research) problem at hand and uses them in both internal and external communication
Synthesis refers to the process of combining the fragmented parts into an aggregated whole. It is an activity that is done at the end of the scientific or creative inquiry. This process leads to creation of a coherent bigger entity, which is something new and fresh. How does synthesis come into picture in design thinking Analysis and synthesis, thus, form the two fundamental tasks to be done in design thinking. Design thinking process starts with reductionism, where the problem statement is broken down into smaller fragments. Each fragment is brainstormed over by the team of thinkers, and the different smaller solutions are then put together to form a coherent fina Analysis + Synthesis = Design Thinking. Analysis and synthesis, thus, form the two fundamental tasks to be done in design thinking. Design thinking process starts with reductionism, where the problem statement is broken down into smaller fragments Synthesis relies on the talent of a designer who can immediately begin playing with solutions to a problem. It is often suggested that synthesis is the basis for design thinking. That is to say, that design is solution-focused whereas science, logic and data-driven techniques tend to be problem-focused. Analysis vs Synthesis In Design Thinking, the first phase is the Research or Empathise phase, then you move on to the Define phase, in which you utilise several available methods to help you crystallise, synthesise, and summarise your understanding of who you're designing for and what your users really need
. However, there appear to be substantial differences between promoters and critics about its essential attributes, applicability, and outcomes Design synthesis methods can be taught, and when selectively applied, visual, diagrammatic synthesis techniques can be completed relatively quickly. During Synthesis, Designers visually explore large quantities of data in an effort to find and understand hidden relationships
2. Synthesis. In general, synthesis refers to the combining of two or more things to create something new. When it comes to systems thinking, the goal is synthesis, as opposed to analysis, which. Design thinking is generally defined as an analytic and creative process that engages a person in opportunities to experiment, create and prototype models, gather feedback, and redesign Design Thinking and Innovation Course - Day 4 - Synthesis 1.
A s readers of this newsletter are aware, systems thinking is evolving as an alternative to the old paradigms. Richard Mattessich wrote that systems thinking is first and foremost a point of view and a methodology arising out of this viewpoint (, The systems approach: Its variety of aspects, Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 33(6), 1982) Design Thinking ist eine kundenzentrierte und iterative Methode für die Lösung von komplexen Problemen und die Entwicklung neuer Ideen. Mit der Design Thinking Methode gelingt es Dir unter Abwägung von Wirtschaftlichkeit, Machbarkeit und Erwünschtheit eine aus Kundensicht überlegene Lösung zu entwickeln The third component of design thinking process is the most interesting and perhaps, the most rigorous as well. In this section, called Ideate, a design thinker is supposed to bring to the table as many ideas as possible. While brainstorming for ideas, it is not checked whether the idea is possible, feasible, and viable or not

We are a global consultancy company working across education, corporate and not for profits The synthesis phase is aimed at challenging students prior learning and finding gaps in their knowledge. To enable the students to visually investigate their understandings they undertook a hexagon thinking task whereby they needed to connect a number of different words together and explain their connections. I modeled an example to them using the triptico synthesis tool based around soft drinks And because it's provocative, it demands reaction. It leads to new design ideas. The more provocative the insight, the more innovative (and risky) these design ideas become. This synthesis process is a new way of thinking for students who have been taught that you need all of the data before you can move forward Design thinking principles involve a lot of questioning. We question everything; the problem, our own assumptions, the assumptions of the user, and the implications that stem from our assumptions and the nature of the problem. The design thinking process is very useful when we meet novel problems that we have not encountered before

We love this thing. As discussed by Dubberly, Evenson and Robinson, the Analysis-Synthesis Bridge Model provides a framework for design thinking. By dividing the design process into two phases - analysis and synthesis, designers can better understand how to bridge the gap between the current state of a design problem and its solutions Good design is actually a lot harder to notice than poor design, in part because good designs fit our needs so well that the design is invisible, serving us without drawing attention to itself. Bad design, on the other hand, screams out its inadequacies, making itself very noticeable. —Don Norman, The Design of Everyday Things Design Thinking It goes beyond the traditional focus on the.
